The problem isn't a lack of ideas, it's finding the right jumping in point, and that can happen for a book, a chapter, a paragraph, the next sentence, the next word. Sometimes blanks are stymying for longer than I like (what a weird-looking word - stymying). I like your discussion of choices, here, Connie. These blanks are about making choices. And editing is about changing or improving those choices. But first we have to make the choices. Thanks! You've helped un-stymy me.Molly MacRaehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07755143318141885327noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-993649290245605005.post-80431471840248347352021-07-22T09:19:32.768-04:002021-07-22T09:19:32.768-04:00I love the blank page - it's like New Year'...I love the blank page - it's like New Year's for me. As long as I have an idea, I can fill it. Which doesn't mean I don't need to ask all those questions; I end up waiting until some of them are "known" as the characters write their story -- and then I flesh it out and make the details consistent.

Although in theory I'd spend less time with answers before writing, my brain does not seem to work that way.Jim Jacksonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15090252530437277145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-993649290245605005.post-9632101511424437292021-07-22T06:34:45.189-04:002021-07-22T06:34:45.189-04:00Connie, those are excellent questions to ask ALL o...Connie, those are excellent questions to ask ALL of your characters!

I love the blank page and all the possibilities...until I'm about halfway through the book at which point it becomes my nemesis!
