We must have gone thirty or forty times.

Shari, my hubby's grandfather delivered ice cream to restaurants in Philadelphia from a horse-drawn wagon. My husband remembered "helping," although I have a feeling he was too young to really be of much help. And since I moved to a retirement community when I for more assistance with my husband's care before he died, I have the next best thing to a self-cleaning house. A housekeeper shows up on schedule to clean, and a phone call (to the operator, no less) produces someone when there's an off-schedule chore or maintenance that needs attention.)KM Rockwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03973749764907859829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-993649290245605005.post-9727715300683393952021-09-14T13:27:34.528-04:002021-09-14T13:27:34.528-04:00That's a good question, Jim. When he passed away in the 1980s, he'd seen the transition from horses to spacecraft. I wonder what progress I'll see by the time I'm his age. I'd really love to see a self-cleaning house, but no one's invented one yet.Shari Randallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16425493627354028820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-993649290245605005.post-85980446213490663992021-09-14T11:36:30.103-04:002021-09-14T11:36:30.103-04:00I went to the World's Fair in New York in 1964...I went to the World's Fair in New York in 1964 or 65 and remember seeing a demonstration of telephones where you could see the person calling. It took a long time for it to become a household thing, but it still happened. At the same fair, we saw illustrations of the cities of the future, which had flying cars. Thankfully, that one hasn't happened--yet. He was going there and asked his neighbor to go there, too. My friend's husband's great uncle said he was staying in Gloversville because people would always need gloves. Well, the man from Gloversville, whose name was Samuel Goldfish, went to Hollywood and changed his name to Samual Goldwyn. The rest, as they say, is history.
Marilyn Levinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10424778692932139865noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-993649290245605005.post-49800403711250304112021-09-14T09:09:31.597-04:002021-09-14T09:09:31.597-04:00I remember giving a speech in B-school advocating ...I remember giving a speech in B-school advocating work from home. In 1961, when I was 9, I had no idea what a computer was. My dad told me they were machines that occupied entire rooms and that the TV Guide article was science fiction.
