I know locally we have dogs that come in, and some schools have older retired people who come in to listen to kids read. It sounds like you have a great Friends of the Library group.Gloria Aldenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13581719606924364447noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-993649290245605005.post-35481467714291658392014-06-09T14:22:26.220-04:002014-06-09T14:22:26.220-04:00Hi Barb - Nope, no licking! The kids who read to our dogs do like to sprawl on them sometimes. And it is funny that the dogs really do seem to listen. I've noticed that the therapy dogs like stories with dogs in them, too.Shari Randallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16425493627354028820noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-993649290245605005.post-77337792049015276032014-06-09T09:34:56.039-04:002014-06-09T09:34:56.039-04:00Hi EB - My children had some of those infernal tal...Hi EB - My children had some of those infernal talking toys too, and I hadn't thought about it until you posted, but of course they were going to get bored with it! Its mechanical mouth moved to simulate speaking. We didn't use the bear much. The kids got bored with it immediately.

But a bear that listens is revolutionary. Its hard to read aloud well. Every time I hear my own voice recorded and played back I cringe. I don't think my voice is sounds pleasant. But if children have that nonjudgmental listener, it will help them be good and creative speakers. Acting out characters by changing voices becomes fun. That sense of play, leaving yourself behind, is an important aspect of self actualization and creativity.E. B. Davishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16746747050278597888noreply@blogger.com
