My mother had been married less than a year when my dad was shipped overseas in a ship similiar to the one your dad traveled in. He spent 5 years overseas during WWII. During that time bombs fell all the time in the area where Mom lived. Civilians in the UK sometimes endured more enemy fire than the military. Women, despite the poor rations and bombing, had to do whatever jobs men couldn't because they were overseas. When the war ended, couples had to pick up their relationships although they'd often lived for years in different worlds. No one wanted to talk about the war. Time to get on with peace and that was the start of the baby boomers. Ordinary people just keep going and hope the bad stuff will end.Pauline Alldredhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00847008019331163905noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-993649290245605005.post-63714032073410124012011-06-17T11:33:15.794-04:002011-06-17T11:33:15.794-04:00Warren, thank you. He was part of the 88th in Sicily and Italy. He got as far as north of Rome to a place he called Hill 100. A very bloody battle according to my grandfather, he was injured with "shrapnel in the neck" and was dragged by a "Jewish boy" with only one good arm because it was too hilly for a truck to reach them.Melissa Robbinshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11660227475140255088noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-993649290245605005.post-82904670176221508392011-06-17T06:46:47.910-04:002011-06-17T06:46:47.910-04:00Warren, this brought tears to my eyes.
