For The Next 24 Hours

FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS, I WILL:

• NOT DO HOUSEWORK
• BRAINSTORM PLOT IDEAS
• NOT WORRY ABOUT:
  1. MY KIDS
  2. BUSINESS
  3. CHORES UNFINISHED
  4. OTHER PEOPLE’S PROBLEMS
  5. WHAT I COULDA, WOULDA, SHOULDA, DONE
• CONCENTRATE ON ONE THING AT A TIME
• TAKE A WALK OR WORKOUT AT THE GYM
• TRY SOMETHING NEW
• NOT ENGAGE IN SOCIAL MEDIA
• NOT REACT LIKE PAVLOV’S DOG TO MY EMAIL/CELL PHONE
• FOCUS ON WRITING
• FINISH THE NEXT CHAPTER OF MY WIP
• GET IN THE ZONE

  1. Let's see, I've already done social media this morning, and I always answer lots of email on Monday, and I have to skip the walk/exercise because of a bum ankle, and I must bake a cake for my neighbor, and...I stink at this!

It's a good idea--maybe for another day. Best of luck with this, Elaine.

  2. Luckily, I wrote this blog two weeks ago, Ramona. If not, I'd be quite the hypocrite! At the beginning of the year, I took the challenge to write for at least an hour before I did anything else on line. I got a lot accomplished. Now, with college out, my house has filled up and with it, my mom role has taken up time.

  3. I hope you succeed in the end, even if only for an hour or two. "There's always something," turns out to be true but no one has to eat or sleep as soon as she wants to and the phone ofen rings with unimportant messages.

  4. That's a great goal. A partial success is a success.

  5. I'm a cyclical person, Warren. (I'll have Poptarts for breakfast for two weeks, then can't stand the sight of them for a year.) If I can motivate myself, focus on writing a piece by one method, than that's a success. On novels, you have to try different methods periodically because one method pales after a while.

  6. Congratulations on sticking to one hour of writing a day before doing anything else for the first part of the year, anyway! I'm working on implementing that myself, but it's proving difficult so far...

  7. Habits are made or broken within 3 weeks usually, Alyx. So-if we can establish a good habit in three weeks without breaking...Oh well, it works in theory and statistics.
